EJ&T - 1 Thessalonians: Be quiet, mind your own business, and know how to possess your vessel

In the Every Jot and Tittle project, I am listing all of the Bible's commandments from Genesis to Revelation, in accordance with Jesus's words in Matthew 5:18-19. I have no idea how many commandments I'll find, but Jewish tradition claims there are 613. See here for a list of those that I've found so far.

  1. Know how to possess your vessel in sanctification and honor.
  2. For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus. For this is the will of God, even your sanctification ... That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour; Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God. 1 Thessalonians 4:2-5

  3. Don't despise.
  4. He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us his holy Spirit. 1 Thessalonians 4:8

For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17

  17. Know, esteem, and love your religious leaders.
  18. Know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13

I think I can use 1 Thessalonians 4:11 on my dental students. Every now and then we have a little "intellectual honesty" problem. If we can give them biblical warnings, maybe we can apply biblical punishments!
